About Judge Dan Higgins

Since 2012 through the present date, Judge Dan Higgins has been serving as the District Judge for Stroud Township. In 2017, his court jurisdiction was expanded to include all of Hamilton Township as well as Stroud Township.

Background & Education

A lifelong third-generation Monroe County resident, Judge Dan Higgins attended primary school and high school in East Stroudsburg. Thereafter, he studied for four years at Villanova University before receiving a Bachelor's of Science Degree and further studied three years at the District of Columbia Law School before obtaining his law degree. After law school, he returned to Monroe County in order to practice law with his father, the late C. Daniel Higgins, Sr., a prominent local attorney and pillar of the community.

A Wide-Ranging Track Record of Legal Success

Dan Higgins has been licensed by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to practice law for a period of over 25 years. During such time, he practiced both criminal and civil law cases in both state courts and federal courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition, his experience includes his work as Special Solicitor of Monroe County Children and Youth Services as well as acting as Solicitor for the Zoning Division of Chestnuthill Township.

Extensive Experience As A Judge

Over the past seven years, he has presided over thousands of cases involving criminal law and civil law as a District Judge. Notably, his judicial experience includes ruling on complex criminal cases involving a wide range of serious charges from first-degree murder and other severe felonies all the way through traffic law trials. Additionally, to reinforce his knowledge of the law, Judge Dan Higgins has attended judicial education school in Harrisburg and participated in over 180 hours of judicial education classes since 2012 and in each successive year. These classes, which are required by all sitting judges, are incredibly informative and have assisted him in his everyday duties as a District Judge. Over the past seven years, he has completed such classes on an annual basis.

Family & Community Ties

Judge Dan Higgins and his wife, Jennifer, have been married for the past 17 years and they live in Stroud Township with their son, Evan, and two dogs. They are very invested in their community, including being members of their local church parish. Beyond his work as a judge, he has dedicated himself to giving back to his local community. He is involved in various charitable organizations, including the Salvation Army, the Monroe Animal League, and the Burnley Workshop.
